New Jersey's dire blood shortage aroused the Wayne Interfaith Community Network to wake us up and take action!
In reality only 38% qualify to donate blood. Nationwide 5% donate vs 3.6% in New Jersey and in summer 2.5%. In North Jersey that means a 300 to 500 pint per month. shortage and some hospitals a 2 day supply. NJ hospitals imported 111,700 pints of blood in 2011-far more than any other state. (p/NJ Dept. of Health & Senior Services.)
The need for blood takes no vacation! We are the source and blood stores 35 days. In your lifetime 80% will need blood...
Requirements: Donors must be in good health, 16-75-plus years and weigh over 110 pounds. Those 16 years old need parents written permission and 76-plus years doctors written permission. Some form of ID with signature or photo and name.
