Clean Up Crews and Supplies Needed

Community Helping Their Neighbors

Hi Everyone,  I was away and just read my emails.  Please read this email that was sent to me from Rev. Karyn Ratcliffe.  If we all do a little it will mean a lot!  Thanks Ruby

Ruby,

Please forward this to your People's List.

Dear Wayne families,

First Reformed Church in Pompton Plains is looking for 20 volunteers who would be willing to form work crews and do hands-on clean-up projects for those who have been displaced from their homes in that town. Volunteers would meet at First Reformed Church and work 5-9pm on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Hours are flexible - whenever you can get there. If you are interested, please let me know asap. More info will be forthcoming about carpooling, etc.

In addition, the following supplies are needed: mops, buckets, utility knives and work gloves.

Bleach and garbage bags are NOT needed at this time.

Supplies can be delivered to the Packanack Community Church on Wednesday and Thursday between 9:00am and 12:30pm. Please leave them inside the breezeway entrance or in front of the door if the building is locked. We may also need people to help transport the donations depending upon how much we receive.

The Wayne Interfaith Network will be distributing bags of food to families-in-need. The food pantry is very low at this time. Donations of non-perishable items would be appreciated.

Wayne Township is in the process of assessing needs and will be assisting families as they are able to return to their homes. Gift cards in $25 and $50 denominations from the following stores are needed: any major supermarket, Home Depot, Lowe's, Target, Kohls, K-Mart and Wal-Mart.

As a point of information, the Red Cross has not set up any local shelters because the impact of the hurricane has been so widespread. Instead, regional shelters have been set up. The closest one to Wayne is at Bergen Community College in Paramus. Those in need of shelter are asked to contact the Red Cross or Wayne Township's Department of Social Services at 973-694-0600, X3281.

Thank you for your assistance in the clean-up effort. Please watch for more information as we continue to find ways to help our neighbors-in-need.
