Wayne Alliance Family Fun-d-Rasier Was Truely a Fun Experience

Last Friday, I had to opportunity to participate in an amazing and wonderful event. This was an annual basketball fundraiser where the Harlem MagicMasters came to Wayne Valley High School for an event hosted by the Wayne Alliance, the DFM Foundation, Wayne Police Department, and the local participating elementary schools.

The event helps the Wayne Alliance raise money to host Substance Abuse Prevention programs in Wayne.

I was happy to help out at the raffle table, working with Wayne Alliance members Jennifer and Karen. I have to admit, it was tiring, but it was a fun experience, and I hope to participate in it again. The raffle table at first was not busy, but once the game started, people started to flood in. I worked at the 50/50 raffle station with Karen. We weren’t doing well at first, but then a couple other members came and helped us get a lot of people to participate. One of the members I worked with at the end of the event was Celine. Celine was so open-minded and she made the atmosphere comfortable. Of course, she wasn’t the only one, the other members made the atmosphere and environment comfortable. I just remember Celine the most because she interacted with me a lot towards the end and she talked to me like I was her friend, not just a child.

As planning events get more hectic, planning for this event was very hectic. Especially at the end, when everything was starting to fall into place. I remember helping Clive with the programs and after hearing we had to put together 600 programs, I was a little worried. I wasn’t sure if we could get it done in time, but fortunately we did. I also helped with transporting the programs to my supervisor’s office so that they could be taken to the venue.

I also remember helping with the finances and counting money. I counted the money from the 50/50 raffle and helped with the tricky tray raffles. Even though I stayed behind the table for most of my time there, I was able to sneak a peek at the game once in a while. I remember watching the professionals go against a group of teachers who wore costumes. The costumes consisted of Darth Vader, storm troopers, a ninja warrior, and a character who I did not recognize but resembled a king. I was able to get a picture of them before they left to change. I also saw a little bit of the halftime show that was performed by the lovely students from Ryerson Elementary School.

Overall, this was a great experience. I had a lot of fun, and I hope to participate in this event again.
