Wayne Proposes $90 Tax Increase

$80.1 million budget includes higher healthcare costs and police and township employee raises, report says.

Based on a budget introduced at a township council meeting last month, Wayne residents will likely see a $90 municipal tax increase this year, NorthJersey.com reported.

The budget comes in at $80.1 million, the report said. For the average Wayne home, assessed at $228,242, the increase in taxes will bring the bill to about $2602, the report said.

The increase is due mostly to increased insurance costs for the township's employees, and a contract-mandated two percent pay increase for Wayne police officers, and 1.5 percent increase for all other township employees, the report said.

The town is planning a public hearing on the budget on May 7.
