Races

Wayne Board of Education

Five Board of Education candidates are vying for three, three-year seats: Catherine Kazan, Michael Bubba, Eileen Albanese, Kim Essen, and Don Monteyne.

Essen and Monteyne are incumbents. The Community for Academic Excellence (CAE), a non-partisan group of current and former Wayne educators, endorsed Bubba and Monteyne.

All the candidates expressed their desire to work in the best interest of Wayne students. At a candidates’ forum they talked about the need for the board to be as transparent with the community as possible.

Some candidates said they would be in favor of instituting a pay freeze given the fact that residents will not vote on the tax levy for a few more years.

Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders

Passaic County Freeholders: Incumbent Republicans Edward O’Connell, Michael Marotta, and Deborah Ciambrone are battling to keep their seats and wrestle majority control of the freeholder board away from the Democratic Party. Democrats Democrats Hector Lora, Rhonda Casson Cotroneo, and John Bartlet want to make sure that doesn’t happen.

The Republicans have touted their alleged record of being fiscally conservative and mindful of how they spend taxpayer money.

The candidates also want to examine finding a permanent solution to flooding in the Passaic River Basin.

11th Congressional District

As part of a redistricting plan due to the results of the 2010 Census, Wayne will move to New Jersey's 11th Congressional District beginning Jan. 1.

Longtime Republican Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen is running for re-election to represent the 11th District.

A Vietnam War veteran, Frelinghuysen served three terms on the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1974 to 1983. He was first elected to represent the 11th District in 1995.

Frelinghuysen is being challenged by Democrat John Arvanites.
