VIDEO: How Would Candidates Deal with Contamination?

Question asked at candidates forum for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wards.

At last week's League of Women Voters forum, candidates from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wards were asked how they would deal with the issue of contamination of the water supply and soil in the Pompton Lakes dam flood area.

We have posted their answers in the video clips attached to this story.

The question was posed by the League of Women Voters, not a member of the audience.

The candidates running to represent the three wards are:

Republicans: Alan Purcell, 1st Ward, incumbent; Al Sadowski, 2nd Ward, incumbent; and Franco Mazzei, 3rd Ward.

Democrats: Gary Marchese Sr., 1st Ward; Ray Egatz, 2nd Ward, and Matthew Giordano, 3rd Ward.

Giordano did not attend the forum.

An article on the entire forum can be found . Video excerpts of the candidates answers to other questions are available in the links to other articles, at right.

Has anyone ever taken a stroll behind 474 Newark Pompton Turnpike and seen the mess thats strewn about back there?

You may have said this before, and I apologize if you have. But for the life of me I can not understand what their motivation may have been. Not saying it did not happen or even getting into that, but I can't understand why they would even go in that direction. Atta boys for the environmentally conscious efforts.

Whose motivation? Not following. Do you mean regarding the dumping of the polluted water into the Pompton River? If so, your guess is as good as mine...

Burke, Who knows what is dumped in that area. It's part of the old Totowa Wayne Airport. There was a dump site for years behind it. Everything got dump there. As a kid we use to go there to shoot rats with are bb guns.

Nobody is raising an eyebrow about the contaminated soil flowing onto Jackson Avenue, or into the river at FeederDam. They could care less about the sewage that flows into Pananack Lake, Pines Lake, or Pompton Lake every time it floods. They want your votes, not your questions.
