Pay Freeze for School Administrators Favored By Candidates

Board of Education candidates asked if they are in favor of asking administrators to take pay cuts.

Some Board of Education candidates said they would be in favor of instituting a pay freeze given the fact that residents will not vote on the tax levy for a few more years.

The candidates were asked the following question at a recent candidates' forum:

"Due to the 2 percent cap on spending and the fact that voters will not vote on a tax levy until 2015, would you support asking administrators, including the superintendent, to take a pay cut?"

Candidates also discussed the following topics at the forum: transparency with the community and how they've educated themselves in district matters. We've also featured the candidates' opening statements.

A pay freeze may be imminent projecting forward. Currently, we're facing a category 2 hurricane that could possibly devastate any/all progress that has been made since 2009. Our community needs to be flexible and confident that the progress of it's infastructure will continue to move forward and ahead of rising administration costs. The education and welfare of our families and their children come first. No exceptions.

This is an interesting notion when compared with Packanack Lake resident Mary Ann (Sudovar) Mirko's unbrideled greed who when as CEO of 501 C3 a tax exempt charity 4C's (formerly the North jersey Coordinated Child Care Agency) who recently retired from the Paterson org leaving then owing the state $1.4 M in disallowed monies she garnered in perks and benefits. Plus the $2 M in construction contracts that her son Roy Miko dba Lakeside Carpentry also from Wayne, (whose business address listed with the Sec o State of NJ address is registered here but was not on file with the township).who miraculously always seemed to turn in the lowest bids for construction there? I would be more impressed with the Governors town halls if he actually took back these monies rather than talk down school administartor salaries who far and away serve the communities and children in which they live than the Mirko-4C's example(s). http://www.northjersey.com/news/opinions/173641141_Herald_News__A_non-profit_falls_down_on_its_mission.html

Wow a regular profiles in courage. The candidates volunteered pay freezes (actually pay decreases when you factor in added co-pay of health care premium - up to 35%) for other people. Very brave indeed

Did any of them say they'd get rid of that absurd waste of cash? You remember, the PR firm that will answer questions the next time some high school kids get in a fight.

@WC What would you like the candidates to do? A question was posed to them. They answered. Taxpayers have a right to know where each stands on the issue.

Does this mean that certain administrators can legally file law suits claiming the township allowed certain candidates to be elected knowing that they would vote for a pay freeze. If the board finds themselves in the position that this vote is necessary, will the BOE President be forced to abstain himself to avoid a "conflict of interest" ? After all he's represented by the PBA first, then the BOE before the WEA.
