Rumana Cleared of Ethics Charge

Rumana: 'The ruling today demonstrates that I did not violate any ethical standards.'

A joint legislative committee voted not to bring ethics charges against Republican Assemblyman Scott Rumana today.

The Joint Legislative Committee on Ethical Standards considered whether to charge Rumana for his role in advocating for the Wayne Energy Corporation in an effort to bring an energy plant to Wayne during his term as a state assemblyman.

“I am gratified by today’s decision to dismiss the complaint,” Rumana said in a statement. “The ruling today demonstrates that I did not violate any ethical standards.”

The committee dismissed other complaints against Rumana (Distirct 40) earlier this year. Rumana, a Wayne resident, was mayor before incumbent Chris Vergano.

Bill Brennan filed the complaints. He is running against Rumana in the general election.

“I disagree with the notion that violating a multitude of state laws and costing your constituents tens of millions of dollars is a mere lapse in judgement,” Brennan said.

Brennan said he will appeal the ruling.
