Public Budget Hearing is June 1

Tax levy could increase nearly $2.3 million.

The public hearing on the municipal budget is Wednesday, June 1.

As currently constituted, the tax levy is $56.7 million, an increase of almost $2.3 million from last year. That amount is based upon the introduced budget; the final approved amount could be lower.

The municipal portion of the average homeowner's taxes will increase $99 if the budget is approved.

The administration and the council's budget committee are working together to finalize the budget. Township officials said there will be no change in major programs or services offered.

The public hearing will take place in the council chamber in the  The council is scheduled to adopt the budget June 15.

The budget was introduced March 16.

Department heads met with the council and township Administrator Neal Bellet at a public meeting April 27 to discuss their individual budgets. 

“The budget is in compliance with all state-mandated caps, including the new 2 percent cap and every mandate that is put on us by the state of New Jersey,” Mayor Chris Vergano previously said. Governor Chris Christie  earlier this year limiting property tax increases to 2 percent.
