Officials: Rivers Have Begun to Recede

Willowbrook Mall will remain closed Wednesday.

Wayne Township officials have issued a statement regarding the latest developments regarding flooding in the Wayne. 

"The Passaic, Pompton and Ramapo Rivers have crested and begun to slowly recede. Notwithstanding this, those areas of Wayne Township nearest the Passaic and Pompton Rivers remain in major flood conditions. Some areas will be accessible by Thursday, while others it may not be until the weekend before safe access is seen.

"The Parks Department continues to work extended hours to remove the numerous Township trees and large branches that came down during Hurricane Irene.

"The Wayne Office of Emergency Management will remain in full operation mode until further notice. This unified response includes Wayne’s police department, volunteer fire department, volunteer first aid squad, department of public works, health department, volunteer CERT team and administration.

"The Township is very appreciative of the manpower and equipment assistance we continue to receive from the New Jersey State Police Marine Services and the National Guard. Evacuations are continuing during the day.

"Residents who wish to be evacuated and for flood related information should call the Office of Emergency Management at 973-694-5050. All emergency calls should be to 9-1-1.

"Willowbrook Mall will remain closed on Wednesday. Beyond Wednesday will be a day-by-day determination.
