Funds Available to Help Spring Flood Victims Rebuild

Loans made available through the Small Business Administration.

Wayne residents and businesses owners whose properties were damaged or destroyed during the flood event in March can apply for loans to help them recover.

Low-interest loans of up to $200,000 are available through the Small Business Administration (SBA).

Legislators from the state’s 40th District announced the funds' availability earlier this week.

“This loan program is very welcome news for the many homeowners who lost so much in the flooding,” said Assemblyman David Russo.

President Obama did not declare the March flood event a federal disaster and the township lost out of aid funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a result. Governor Christie the decision in May.

Flooding has already the township $500,000 this year. The township is in the process of several homeowners' properties in the Hoffman Grove section of Wayne.

Homeowners and renters are also eligible for loans up to $40,000 to repair or replace personal property that was damaged or destroyed.

Individuals and businesses may obtain information on loan applications by calling the SBA’s customer service center at 800-659-2955, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
