Four Republicans, Two Democrats Vie for Two Assembly Seats

O'Toole to face Zunic for state Senate seat.

Monday was the deadline for candidates to file to run in June’s primary election.

As of Tuesday morning, four Republicans and two Democrats filed petitions for the 40th District’s two General Assembly seats. Republicans Louis D’Angelo and Ernesto Sesso will run against incumbents David Russo and Scott Rumana. 

D’Angelo and Sesso are running under the slogan “Republicans for a Better Passaic County.” Rumana and Russo are running under the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization Inc.

Democrats William Brennan and Cassandra Lazzara will challenge the two winners of the June GOP primary, in the November general election. 

Kevin O’Toole is the only Republican primary candidate listed for the district’s State Senate seat. O’Toole, an incumbent, is also running under the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization Inc.

John Zunic is the only Democratic candidate listed for the district's senate seat. He is being endorsed by the Passaic County Democratic Organization.

The unofficial numbers released by the county show D'Angelo and Sesso had 164 and 166 petition signatures, respectively. Rumana and Russo had 421 each, unofficially. O'Toole had 257 signatures.

Zunic had 128 petition signatures. Brennan and Lazzara had 264 each.

There are more than 35,000 registered voters in Wayne, including 8,500 Democrats and 11,100 Republicans.
