The first of two debates between Governor Chris Christie and his Democratic challenger, state Sen. Barbara Buono will take place at William Paterson University next month.

Christie’s campaign announced today that the debates would take place at William Paterson and Montclair State University on Oct. 8 and Oct. 15 respectively, NJ.com reported.

Buono’s campaign said shortly after the announcement that the second debate should be delayed until after Oct. 16, which is when the special U.S. Senate election will take place.

“Senator Buono looks forward to a robust debate that offers New Jersey’s electorate an opportunity to understand the stark differences on the issues," Buono’s campaign manager, Jonathan Ducote, told the website. "However, we have not agreed to a date for the second gubernatorial debate and will continue to work to find a solution that serves the best interests of the public."
