Fewer Residents Voted This Year Than in Last Ward Council Election

About 600 fewer votes were cast this year than in 2007.

Democrats appear to be making some political inroads in some wards based on election numbers from this year's race and the one held in 2007.

The 4th Ward Democratic candidate received 28 percent of the vote in 2007. Mickey Bradley reeived 36 percent this year.

This year’s 6th Ward race between incumbent Nadine Bello and Sam Mirza was closer than the last race, but 250 fewer residents voted in this election. Mirza received 46 percent of the vote. William Brennan received only 36 percent of the vote in 2007.

Republicans received about two-third of the votes this year in the 3rd and 4th Ward races, a slight decrease from the last election.

The Democratic Party did not even field a full slate of candidates in the last election. Republican Alan Purcell ran unopposed in the 1st Ward four years ago.

Democrats fielded a full slate this year. McIntyre ran unopposed to represent the 5th Ward again.

The Republicans , winning every race to hold onto eight of the nine council seats, a repeat outcome from 2007. McIntyre is the lone Democrat on the council.

Republican Al Sadowski received about 100 more votes than the last Republican 2nd Ward winner.

Franco Mazzei received about 250 fewer votes than incumbent Gerard Porter did in 2007. Mazzei’s opponent Matthew Giordano received more votes, 634, than Porter’s Democratic opponent did four years ago, 569.

Joseph Scuralli received a smaller percentage of votes than he did in 2007, but has still won the right to represent the 4th Ward in convincing fashion.
