Department Heads Will Discuss Budget With Officials

Leaders will discuss their individual departments at annual meeting. Average homeowners' taxes could increase $112 if $55.5 million tax levy is approved.

The leaders of the municipal departments will meet with the town council and other officials Wednesday to explain what their plans are for the next year.

Leaders will each discuss what the current status of their department and give a brief presentation. No action will be taken at the meeting. The meeting will be held in the .

The special budget meeting is held every year.

The municipal portion of the average homeowner’s tax bill if the council approves the proposed $55.5 million tax levy.

The total proposed budget, including the levy, is $77.8 million. The average home is assessed at $229,000.

Council President Joseph Scuralli said that the township’s goal is to operate “as effectively as possible” to help minimize the effect property taxes have on homeowners’ budgets.

“The interest rates that we are looking at now are historically low. The higher property taxes go, if residents budget a certain percentage of their money for housing and if housing prices go back up the monthly mortgage payments will be more expensive,” Scuralli said.

Councilman is leading a committee of four council members that is examining and discussing the budget.

Last year’s budget was $76.5 million. The average homeowner’s taxes increased $89.
