Democrats Keep Control of Freeholder Board

Republicans lose bid to gain majority.

Democrats will retain control of the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders after Bruce James and Theodore Best defeated Republicans and Frank Fusco.

With more than 99 percent of polling district reporting voting results, Ceberio, a Wayne resident and member of the Board of Education, and Fusco received 23,774 and 24,353 votes, respectively. James and Best received 29,778 and 28,761 votes, respectively. James, a Democrat, is an incumbent.

Democrats will again hold a majority, four out of seven, of the freeholder seats next year.

“We have to start the 2012 freeholder campaign tonight,” Ceberio said.

In other county election news, Democrat Bernice Toledo is the new county surrogate. He defeated Republican , also a Wayne resident, 30,539 to 24,104.
