Frelinghuysen Running For Reelection In 11th District

Republican Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen has announced he is running to represent New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District again.

is currently in the 8th Congressional District, which is represented by Democratic Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr. As part of a redistricting plan due to the results of the 2010 Census, Wayne will move to the 11th district beginning Jan. 1, 2013.

According to the state Division of Elections, Frelinghuysen has received 1,255 petition signatures. His Democratic opponent, John Arvanites, has received 271 signatures. The primary election will be held June 5. No other candidates were listed as running for either major political party ticket on the division’s Web site.

A Vietnam War veteran, Frelinghuysen served three terms on the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1974 to 1983. He was first elected to represent the 11th District in 1995.

“I continue to strive to put fact-based problem-solving ahead of politics to address the challenges we all face,” Frelinghuysen said in a statement.

Frelinghuysen, 65, has promised to take the following steps to foster the creation of private sector jobs and economic growth:

• Revamp and simplify the taxes codes with lower rates.
• Cut government spending.
• Eliminate tax increases.

Shawn Crisafulli, a public information officer with the New Jersey Department of State, said list of who is running in the primary will be made official next week.
