Congressional Candidates to Debate on Wednesday

Challenger and long-time incumbent will face off to represent the state's 11th Congressional District. Wayne is joining the district beginning next year.

Democratic congressional candidate John Arvanites will debate long-time incumbent Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen on Wednesday at William Paterson University at 7 p.m.

The debate is open to the public.

The two are vying for representation of New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.

One of the two will represent Wayne as the township moves to the district beginning in 2013. The move comes as a result of the 2010 census.

Arvanites is a certified public accountant and former mayor of Roseland. Frelinghuysen has served in Congress since being elected in 1995.

Richard French, host of RNN’s Richard French Live will moderate the debate. Candidates will field questions from Alfred Doblin, editorial page editor of The Record, Charles Stile, The Record’s political columnist, and Herb Jackson, the paper’s senior Washington correspondent.

The debate will be held at the university’s Cotsakos College of Business, 1600 Valley Road, near the main campus.

The debate will air on Cablevision, channels 19 and 48, Dish Network channel 22, and Direct TV channel 48.
