Wayne Teen Charged with Valley Graduate's Murder

Casey Cole, 18, of Wayne accused in Isaac Rinas' death.

A Wayne teen has been charged with murder in the death of Isaac Rinas, authorities announced Friday.

Casey Cole, 18, of Wayne, a classmate of Rinas', was charged with felony murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes. However, Cole is not the gunman, Passaic Chief Assistant Prosecutor Michael DeMarco said.

Rinas was shot in the neck at approximately 9 p.m. on Fair Street in Paterson mere hours after graduating from Wayne Valley High School on Wednesday, police said. Rinas was the target of a robbery, authorities said.

Rinas was in a black 2013 G37 Infiniti on Fair Street with "another Wayne resident" when a man entered the back seat of the vehicle and produced a handgun; Rinas was shot in the neck, police said.

DeMarco said that Cole "is not the alleged shooter" and would not confirm whether Cole was Rinas' companion in the Infiniti.

"We are actively pursuing that individual," DeMarco said in reference to the gunman. "The investigation remains active and ongoing."

Rinas is listed as one of Cole's friends on Facebook. Cole also listed that he is a member of the Wayne Valley Class of 2013.

The Major Crimes Units of the Paterson Police Department and the prosecutor’s office are investigating the incident.

Cole’s bail was set at $2 million cash. A bail source hearing will be held, Valdes said.

Cole is scheduled to be arraigned in Paterson Municipal Court Monday, NorthJersey.com reported.
