Wayne Man Passes Out Behind Wheel, Crashes into Route 46 Futon World, Police Say

61-year-old suffered a medical condition that caused him to pass out, police said.

A 61-year-old Wayne man smashed through the front window of a Futon World on Route 46 after suffering a medical condition while driving, Fairfield Police announced in a release Thursday.

According to police, the unidentified man was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus suffered a condition that caused him to pass out behind the wheel at about 5:05 p.m. Thursday. The man, who was alone in the car, veered off of the highway, struck a car parked at 420 Route 46 East, and then crashed through the window of Futon World, police said. 

No injuries were reported as a result of the accident, the report said.

“We are extremely fortunate that this did not result in someone being seriously injured or killed,” Deputy Chief Anthony Manna said in the release.

Fairfield Police did not issue any summonses, but said they did notify the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission relative to the cause of the accident so that the driver’s license of the operator could be re-evaluated.
