A Wayne man was charged with assaulting his 11-week-old child Tuesday, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.
Robert Jacoby, 33, brought his injured son to a Wayne hospital and due to the nature of the injuries sustained the child was transferred by helicopter to another hospital, Valdes said Thursday.
After an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, Jacoby was charged and arrested on April 29 with one count of second-degree aggravated assault and one count of second degree endangering the welfare of a child.
The child is currently hospitalized in a pediatric intensive care unit listed in critical but stable condition.
This alleged incident occurred in Wayne on the previous day, prosecutors said.
Aggravated assault carries a maximum sentence of up to ten years in prison and endangering the welfare of a child also carries a maximum term of up to ten years in state prison, prosecutors said Thursday.
