Truck That Crushed Car Was Speeding, Police Say

Driver of recycling truck issued summons for careless driving in scary crash that sent eight people to the hospital on Monday.

The driver of a truck that in Wayne on Monday was speeding into the intersection when the crash occured, police said Tuesday, citing witness accounts.

Seneca Jackson, 35, of Newark, was issued a summons for careless driving in connection with the crash. Witnesses told police that that Jackson was traveling at a high rate of speed when he entered the intersection of Hamburg Turnpike and Alps Road against the red light, according to an accident report released Tuesday.

Jackson, who was driving for a recycling company based in Orange, told police he intended to go straight on Hamburg Turnpike, but hit his brakes and swerved right to try and avoid a Ford Focus turning left onto Alps Road from the opposite direction.

Jackson said he was unable to avoid the car, striking it and overturning onto a Honda Accord stopped at the traffic light on Alps Road.

Fouad Abou-chokr, 59, of Wayne, was driving the Ford. He was taken to with back and neck pain.

Se M. Lee, 57, of Teaneck, was driving the Honda crushed by the flipped truck. Lee and at least one other passenger in the car had to be extricated from the vehicle. Lee was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson with neck and back pain.

Lee was issued a summons for driving on a license that expired last month.

Another Wayne woman, Shazia Hasan, 39, was also taken to the hospital.

A spokeswoman for the St. Joseph’s Healthcare System would not release the conditions of the people taken to the hospitals.
