Former Cop Faces More Robbery Charges

Valerio Rodano, 25, is accused of robbing a Haledon convenience store on the same day he allegedly held up a Wayne store.

A Wayne resident and former Haledon special police officer has been charged with robbing another convenience store in Haledon, police said.

Valerio Rodano, 25, was charged Monday with robbing a convenience store at the Citgo gas station on Haledon Avenue on Nov. 12, Haledon police told NorthJersey.com.

Rodano allegedly told a store clerk he had a gun in his sweatshirt pocket when he robbed the store, police told the website. The clerk gave $430 before Rodano fled the store, according to the report. The store clerk later picked Rodano out of a lineup, the report said.

Rodano was previously charged with robbing a 7-Eleven on Valley Road in Wayne the morning he allegedly robbed the Citgo convenience store. He pleaded not guilty to the charge in Wayne Municipal Court two days later. He fled the scene with $135, according to police.

Haledon Deputy Chief Kevin Gottheiner could not be reached for comment.

Rodano was also charged in 2009 with conspiracy, robbery, and aiding and abetting when he allegedly robbed $900 form the Sunoco gas station on the at French Hill Road and Alps Road.

Rodano was a part-time special police officer with the Haledon Police Department but left in 2009.
