Power is slowly being restored to Wayne.

Traffic lights on Hamburg Turnpike are working on Hamburg Turnpike. The lights at Hamburg Turnpike and Duncan Lane, Route 23 and Black Oak Ridge Road, and Alps Road and Ratzer Road.

PSE&G could not be reached for comment. The company has posted on Twitter and other social media accounts that power could be restored by Monday, but has not given a definititive timetable as to when work will be complete.

Firefighters have responded to several carbon monoxide alarms related to the use of portable generators, said Police Chief John Reardon in a daily update released on Wednesday.

“[Residents] should not use gasoline generators indoors, in garages, or close to structures where the exhaust will enter homes,” Reardon said. “The results can prove to be deadly.”

Garbage, recycling, and vegetative waste collection have been cancelled for Thursday and Friday. The recycling center on Dey Road, near the Department of Public Works’ garage, is open everyday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Public schools are closed Thursday. Passaic County Technical Institute is open.

The shelter at Kilroy Park is open and available to use.

Wayne VOAD has arranged for several basic services, including hot meals, showers, and charging stations in town for residents who are without power.

VOAD is a volunteer organization of residents who donate their time to ensure that those members of the community who need assistance receive it.
