Update: Police 'Very Concerned About Recent Incidents Casey O'Toole's

Two people reportedly shot at establishment early Tuesday morning.

Wayne Police Chief John Reardon said the department is "very concerned" about the recent incidents that have occurred at Casey O'Toole's.

Two people were reportedly shot at O'Toole's early Tuesday morning, Wayne Police Detective Capt. Jim Clarke said. Police also broke up a large fight at the restaurant last month.

Reardon said police are "looking at the overall picture of what happens there at night and at the events that are taking place there."

Wayne police responded to the restaurant shortly after 1:40 a.m. on a report that a large fight was underway, Clarke said.

When they arrived, patrons were running out of the restaurant and driving out of the parking lot, he said.

While still in the restaurant’s parking lot, Officer Damian Esposito reported that he heard three to four gunshots and alerted other responding officers, Clarke said.

At 2:19 a.m., the Paterson Police Department notified Wayne Police that two gunshot victims were being treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson: Lashanda Wright, 36, and Javon Perry, 28, both from Paterson, Clarke said.

Wayne police reported that Wright suffered a gunshot wound to the upper right arm and Perry suffered a gunshot wound to the lower left thigh.

Wayne police responded to the hospital to identify the victims.

Officer Luis Oliveira, the first officer on the scene, discovered that Mandel Sly Jr., 23, of Scotch Plains, was bleeding from a head injury, Clarke said. He was also transported to St. Joseph’s.

Officers estimated the crowd to be in excess of 175 patrons, Clarke said.

Detectives processed the vehicle that transported the victims to Paterson and the property, Clarke said.
