Police: Man Arrested for Heroin Possession

Arrest comes after minor accident on Hamburg Turnpike.

A Wayne resident was charged with possession of heroin after being involved in a minor traffic accident Wednesday afternoon, said Capt. James Clarke.

Officer Robert Sova responded to a motor vehicle collision at the entrance to 800 Hamburg Turnpike, Clarke said.

Upon arriving, Sova found that a Ford Escort, operated by Thomas Klauser, 52, of Pompton Lakes, rear-ended an Audi A6, Clarke said.

Clarke said Klauser exhibited signs of intoxication and, after being interviewed by Sova, admitted to recently using heroin and two Vicodin tablets, Clarke said.

A small amount of heroin was found in Klauser’s wallet, Clarke said.

Klauser was issued summonses for DUI, possession of heroin, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, careless driving, and for possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, Clarke said.

He was released to his mother's custody, Clarke said.
