Police Collecting Unused Medications on Saturday

Residents can drop off unused prescriptions in an attempt to safeguard younger residents.

Residents can safely dispose of unused prescription medication Saturday During Operation Take Back.

Residents can bring the medications to the Wayne Police Department headquarters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Detective Sgts. Jay Celentano and Charles Ahearn will be available to answer any questions residents may have about safeguarding prescription medications and not allowing children to obtain them.

The department has identified the illegal use of prescription drugs as a rising trend among young people in the community.

The department will not be collecting over the counter medications, hypodermic needles, or any medication in liquid form.

The program is being conducted in conjunction with the national Drug Enforcement Agency.
