New System Allows Town to Check In with Residents

Those residents with critical medical conditions can be contacted during a power outage.

Residents who have a critical medical condition now have the option of getting help from the township during a power outage.

The township has created a service that allows township staff to contact registered residents during prolonged power outages to make sure they are alright.

Residents’ contact information will be stored in a database at the police department’s communications center. During a power outage, police will contact residences to make sure they are alright and not in need of additional services.

“When there is a loss of power, we are not aware of who could be negatively impacted by losing their power,” said Mayor Chris Vergano. “This is an added service that we are providing to our most fragile residents at a time of need.”

The township began offering the service Thursday.
