New Police Officers Biographies

Have more than 130 years of combined experience

Seven officers were sworn in to new positions at the Wayne Council's reorganization meeting Jan. 5. The officers have 131 combined years of law enforcement experience.

Capt. Laurence Martin started his career with the Wayne Police Department in 1988. He previously worked for the NJ Transit Police Department. He has a bachelor’s degree in public administration from William Paterson University. He is a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Program. He has served in the patrol division. He was promoted to sergeant in 1995 and to lieutenant in 2001. He served as a squad commander until May 2010 when he became acting captain of the operations division.

Capt. Mark McGrath started worked for the department in 1986. Previously, he worked for the Passaic County Park Police, the precursor to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department. He is a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Program. He is a longtime member of the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department Co. No. 5, where he has held many positions, including chief. He is deputy coordinator of operations for the township’s office of emergency management. He has an extensive background in Hazmat and Incident Command Training and is a Task Force 1 specialist for the State of New Jersey.

Lt. Keith O’Sullivan joined the department in 1995 after a tour of duty in the Navy. He has served in the patrol and communications divisions. He has an associate’s degree in business administration from Bergen Community College. He is in charge of the department’s hostage negotiation team. He also is a physical conditioning instructor at the Passaic County Police Academy.

Lt. Steven Giardino worked for the Passaic County Probation Department before joining the Wayne Police Department in 1985. He has served in various areas within the department, including patrol, narcotics, the detective bureau, communications, and the traffic bureau. He has been an active squad commander since July 2010. He has a bachelor's degree in science from Jersey City State College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from William Paterson University. He is a member of the department’s Marine Unit and is an instructor at the Passaic County Police Academy.

Sgt. Don Davidson joined the department in 1993. He did a tour duty with the United States Marine Corps. He served in the patrol division and as a warrants officer before transferring to the communications division. He has been an acting sergeant since September 2010. He has been a member of the department’s Marine unit and honor guard and is a firearms instructor. He has attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Leadership and Supervision Program. 

Sgt. Dan Daly previously worked for the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. He joined the department in 1998. He has a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in criminal justice from St. Peter’s College. He was named the Knights of Columbus Police Officer of the Year in 2004. He has been a member of the patrol division and has numerous narcotics arrests to his credit. He is a member of the division’s Marine unit.

Detective Chris Wittig was sworn in as sergeant; he is the only officer of the seven who has not served in an acting capacity before being officially sworn in. He has a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the University of Medicine and Dentistry and a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Kean University. He became a detective in 2003 and was assigned to Wayne Hills High School as a school resource officer assigned to Wayne Hills High School and helped start the Youth Police Academy. In 2007 he was a co-recipient, along with fellow juvenile detectives, for their work in solving the bomb incident at Wayne Valley High School. He has served on the executive board of the New Jersey Association of School Resource Officers.
