Man Found With Handgun at Exxon Station

West Milford resident took father's gun, truck after an argument.

A West Milford man was arrested early Friday morning at the Exxon gas station on Route 23 North for illegally possessing a handgun.

Wayne police said Stephen Weeks, 62, of West Milford reported that his son Thomas Weeks, 24, took his truck without his consent. According to an alert issued by West Milford police, the younger Weeks was in possession of a loaded .357 Ruger handgun owned by his father.

Police said the suspect was reported to be at the gas station.

Police said Officers Earl Charles, Jason Clemente and Sgt. Donald Davidson responded to the station and found the suspect standing outside of the business.

Police said they informed the suspect of his Miranda rights at which point Weeks said the handgun, which was unloaded, was located in the bed of the pickup truck. Police said they found no ammunition either on the suspect or in the truck.

Weeks had been in an argument with his father and, to further upset his father, took the truck and handgun and left the residence, according to police.

Police said the suspect was also charged with operating an unregistered vehicle and operating a vehicle with a suspended drivers’ license.

The suspect was turned over to the West Milford Police department police said.
