Man Charged With Attempted Burglary Of Jewelry Store

Alleged thief breaks leg in escape attempt

A man broke his leg early Monday during an attempted burglary of Jewelry By Marcus on Route 46 East, reported.

Police responded to an alarm that went off at the business shortly before 4:30 a.m., Detective Capt. James Clarke said.

Upon arriving at the scene, police heard power tools being used and discovered a false wall covering an alley between the store and a business directly behind it, Clarke said.

Police at the scene discovered a man-sized hole in the store’s wall and the power tools used to create it behind the false wall, Clarke said.

A man was spotted on the roof of the jewelry store, Clarke said. A perimeter was set up to look for the individual. Passaic County Sheriff’s K-9 responded to the scene to assist in the search, Clarke said.

Police believed the person jumped from the roof of the building and sustained an injury, Clarke said.

Police discovered Peter Milano hiding behind a garbage bin located behind , which is located near Jewelry by Marcus, Clarke said.

Milano told police he suffered a broken leg due to jumping from the roof during the attempted escape, Clarke said.

Milano was taken and treated for a broken leg, Clarke said.

Milano was charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools, Clarke said.

Municipal judge Peter Weiss set Milano’s bail at $50,000 with no 10 percent option, Clarke said.

Milano also has an outstanding warrant in Maryland for an outstanding larceny charge, Clarke said.

Overtones of sarcasm is, to quote you "subject matter" that has to "do with the story"? Thought you news writers made a living off of free speech. Delete the first comment before you delete this one. Thanks. Charlie.

Our amendments are apparently nul and void anymore... Freedom of speech.... What is that and where did it go? Socialists are taking everything from us....
