Man Charged in Starbucks Robbery

Man allegedly fled from police in Pequannock.

A Highland Lakes man has been charged with robbing a Starbucks on Route 23 on Memorial Day, police Capt. James Clarke said.

Robert Rudy, 29, was charged after police located him in Pequannock Monday, Clarke said.

Clarke said Rudy became a suspect in the robbery Sunday night into Monday. Police received information that a Dunkin Donuts in Montville was robbed the night of May 31 by someone matching the description of the man who robbed the Starbucks, Clarke said.

Clarke said police began searching for Rudy on Monday morning. Police received information that he was in the area of a CVS in Pequannock around 2 p.m. Monday, Clarke said.

Rudy was discovered at the CVS in a white SUV with the mother of his daughter, Clarke said. Rudy then fled on foot and was found in a shed on a nearby property, Clarke said.

Rudy was transported to Wayne police headquarters and was booked on the robbery charge, Clarke said.

Bail was set at $65,000 cash, and Rudy was transported to the Passaic County Jail.
