Grease Fire Damages Valley Road Home

Four people had to be evacuated from the home. They were not injured.

Four people had to be evacuated after a grease fire broke out in a Valley Road home Friday night.

A homeowner was cooking on the stove with oil when the fire broke out, said fire commissioner Steve Toth.

The fire damaged cabinets and part of the kitchen, Toth said.
Two adults and two children were home when the fire started. They were not injured, Toth said. No firefighters were injured either.

Gas and electrical service to the home has been cut off, Toth said.
Grease fires are best extinguished using baking soda, the lid to a pot, or a fire extinguisher.

"The best thing to do is to hit it and then get out," Toth said. "You can replace a kitchen. You can't replace a life."

Fire companies 1, 4, and 5 responded to the fire.
