Motorcycle Skills Challenge Raises Funds For Special Olympics

Police, civilians complete ride in memory of fallen comrade.

Dozens of motorcycles flooded the parking lot at the Sunday for the annual Motorcycle Ride, Skills Competition, and Show fundraiser.

Proceeds from the event went to Special Olympics New Jersey.

Dozens of riders started from the Rockaway Townsquare Mall and rode to Willowbrook. The ride was run in memory of state trooper Marc Castellano.

Castellano was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Garden State Parkway on June 6, 2010 while searching for a man who fled from another state trooper during a traffic stop earlier that day.

Police officers then showed their riding skills at the only motorcycle training skills competition in the state.

Orange cones were set up to create a winding course that tested riders’ maneuvering capabilities.

Dozens of motorcycles were on display as well.

Special Olympics New Jersey provides free year-around sports training and athletic competition for more than 22,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
