Fire Damages Chestnut Drive House

Residents were not at home when the fire broke out.

The residents of 24 Chestnut Dr. were not at home when a fire broke out at their residence Saturday afternoon.

The fire appears to have started in the basement, said John Neukum, assistant chief of Fire Co. No. 5. 

A neighbor notified emergency services of the fire.

There was fire damage reported in the basement and water and smoke damage on the first floor. The second floor reportedly suffered smoke and heat damage.

The residents were not available for comment.

Emergency services personnel blocked off access to the area for some time. Three fire companies and the Wayne Volunteer Fire Aid Squad responded to the blaze.

Chestnut Drive is located in the Packanack Lake section of the township.
