Woman, 82, Killed in Two-Car Crash

Mary Zangrilli, of Pompton Plains, died shortly after Wednesday's accident at the intersection of Berdan Avenue and Pancake Hollow Drive.

An 82-year-old woman was killed in a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Berdan Avenue and Pancake Hollow Drive, Wayne Police said.

Mary Zangrilli, of Pompton Plains, died from her injuries in the crash, which occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police, a 2013 Volkswagon Jetta, driven by a 17-year-old Wayne resident, was traveling north on Berdan Avenue and struck a 2002 Volkswagon Passat driven by Zangrilli.

The Wayne First Aid Squad, fire department, and paramedics from St. Joseph’s Hospital responded to the scene. Zangrilli was transported to the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson and was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m., police said.

The juvenile driver and her juvenile passenger were transported to St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital and were treated for their injuries.

The Wayne Police Traffic Bureau and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the crash.
