County Bomb Squad, Police Investigate Suspicious Materials

Briefcase, cardboard boxes turn out to not contain anything harmful.

Authorities investigated two incidents involving suspicious materials Sunday night.

A briefcase was found on Lake Drive East Sunday at about 8 p.m., NorthJersey.com reported. The Passaic County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad and the Wayne fire department and first aid squad responded to the scene.

Authorities determined the briefcase was empty. The roadway was closed for a few hours.

Officials also investigated cardboard boxes on Lake Drive West in the Packanack Lake section of town at about 11:30 p.m., the website reported. The bomb squad reported the boxes contained nothing harmful.

Residents who suspect suspicious activity should notify the police department immediately.
