Cops: Man Killed After Crashing Into Wayne School Bus

70-year-old crashed head-on into a bus carrying 16 Wayne Valley students Monday afternoon, police said.

A man who crashed into a school bus carrying 16 Wayne Valley students was killed Monday afternoon from injuries he sustained during the accident, Wayne Police Detective Captain Mark McGrath announced in a release Monday night.

According to McGrath, Robert Cafasso, 70, of Paterson, was driving a 2013 Nissan east on Nellis Drive near the Board of Education building at about 2:27 p.m. Monday when he crossed over the double yellow line and crashed head-on into a Wayne school bus.

Cafasso was treated at the scene and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital of Wayne, McGrath said. His “condition deteriorated,” at the hospital, police said. He was pronounced dead at 6:02 p.m., police said.

The bus driver, Satinder Parmer, 62 of Wayne, and two of the students in the bus were transported to area hospitals and treated for minor injuries, McGrath said. The other 14 students on the bus were released to their parents, police said.

The Wayne Police Traffic Bureau is continuing to investigate the accident. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call 973-633-3520.
