Computer Tracking Software Leads to Alleged Burglars

Pair accused of stealing TV, computers and cash from Wayne home.

Tracking software on a stolen computer led authorities to a pair of thieves who allegedly burglarized a Cedar Lane home this week, Wayne Police said.

Kevin Allegrino, 20, of Bloomingdale, and Michael Moratto, 19, of Riverdale, were each charged Tuesday with third-degree burglary and theft.

Officer Joseph Rude reported the burglary occurred between Sunday at noon and Monday at 2 a.m. The back and side doors of the home were unlocked and a garage door was open, Rude reported.

A 55-inch television, two Apple computers, $450 in cash and a small safe containing heirloom jewelry were missing from the house, Rude reported.

Capt. James Clarke said detectives Dave Collins and Jim Faber conducted a follow-up investigation and tracked one of the computers to Bloomingdale.

Clarke said someone purchased the computer for $600 from Allegrino and Moratto tried to create an account on it.

The report states the owner of the computer, who was out of the country when the burglary occurred, turned on tracking software when he was notified of the theft.

Information the detectives gained led them to a Riverdale residence where Allegrino and Moratto were arrested, Clarke said.

Municipal Judge Peter Weiss set bail at $50,000 for each man with no 10 percent option.

The men are scheduled to be arraigned in municipal court on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
