Computer Tracking Software Leads to Alleged Burglars

Pair accused of stealing TV, computers and cash from Wayne home.

Tracking software on a stolen computer led authorities to a pair of thieves who allegedly burglarized a Cedar Lane home this week, Wayne Police said.

Kevin Allegrino, 20, of Bloomingdale, and Michael Moratto, 19, of Riverdale, were each charged Tuesday with third-degree burglary and theft.

Officer Joseph Rude reported the burglary occurred between Sunday at noon and Monday at 2 a.m. The back and side doors of the home were unlocked and a garage door was open, Rude reported.

A 55-inch television, two Apple computers, $450 in cash and a small safe containing heirloom jewelry were missing from the house, Rude reported.

Capt. James Clarke said detectives Dave Collins and Jim Faber conducted a follow-up investigation and tracked one of the computers to Bloomingdale.

Clarke said someone purchased the computer for $600 from Allegrino and Moratto tried to create an account on it.

The report states the owner of the computer, who was out of the country when the burglary occurred, turned on tracking software when he was notified of the theft.

Information the detectives gained led them to a Riverdale residence where Allegrino and Moratto were arrested, Clarke said.

Municipal Judge Peter Weiss set bail at $50,000 for each man with no 10 percent option.

The men are scheduled to be arraigned in municipal court on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

On an entirely different note, on revreading this story I see that the back ,side and garage door were unsecured. which caused me to wonder what exactly was going on here? The home owner was out of the country and the doors were unlocked and the garage door was open...defies logical explanation.

@scondo good point but it is hard to tell from the article if the owner left the garage door open or if that is how the police found the door after the burglary. Also the article doesn't make it clear if the all of the residents were out of the country or just the owner of the computer.

keep yer day job sherlock fer the taxpayers benefit leave the invesitgations to the professionals please?
Scondo September 26, 2012 at 02:59 PM
Other media source reported that the home was broken into, this article seems to imply that the house was unsecured. I was left wondering which it was. A friend told me that his condo complex has had a number of Break Ins over the weekend. They have not made the papers. He had alarm system installed.

No post yet on this blog about 3 break-ins Saturday evening at 11PM on Langdale Rd in the Radcliff Village development. How come?

zeke I can opine about whay that may be the case from personal experience, first as you time it as a Saturday night the public information officer may not be available to dan. The officers on scene even in traffic accidents are sometimes too busy or not empowered to talk to the press. And third, the WPD like many other departments is ruluctant to release any information to 'protect the integrity of an investigation'. Now, speaking for myself, I can't really argue against that concern by the WPD, except to say is it in the public interest to not be forthcoming about such incidents when the public safety is at stake? Thats a difficult decision for the department to make, but thats why they get the BIG MONEY right? Excuse me for being of the opinion that the uninformed public are like sheep in the company of the wolves if the sheep dogs are the only ones to know there is a danger lurking about in the shadows and bushes.

@ Scono & Lorraine...This is my next door neighbor. The owner of the home is in Europe, but there are other adults in the home who were out for the day.

Scumbags losers. All of them. They should do hard time in a North Korean prison camp. I wonder what the look on their faces would have been if they broke into someone's home with the owner standing there with a 12 gauge loaded shotgun pointed at them would be like. Probably as stupid as their mugshots...

"its not there [sic] fault they had a rough life and were addicted to drugs..." Let's see! Whom can we blame for this? Society? W? Obama? I vote for blaming the people who made the decision to break into the house.

Better than all of you November 05, 2012 at 12:51 AM
Fuck you and all you assholes. Nick Sponselli stole money from Mike's bedroom, $410 and then ran out of the house. I could have called the police and the little scumbag Nic Sponz arrested but I didn't. It's ashame Mike thought he could take care of it himself, I would have let the lousy little shit keep the $410. I hope his father feels real good about catching the perpetrators that stole his TV. The next time I'll made sure that little shit Nic Sponz goes to jail for stealing!
Better than all of you November 05, 2012 at 12:53 AM
We know who you are too Kyle, just as much a drug addict, oh more right?
Better than all of you November 05, 2012 at 12:54 AM
By the way Kyle, what do you know about the house burnig down. You there? Maybe the police want to talk to you. I'll let them know you were there.
