Attempted Murder Charge Filed Against Wayne Man

24-year-old arrested in connection with alleged shooting in Paterson.

A Wayne man was charged with attempted murder and possession of heroin in connection with the shooting of a 27-year-old man in Paterson, Vernon police said Tuesday.

Brian Curry, 24, of Wayne, was arrested Friday after Vernon police conducted a joint attempted murder and narcotics investigation with the Paterson Police Department, police reported.

A Paterson resident told authorities a vehicle pulled up next to him on the street Nov. 15 and an individual in the vehicle demanded the victim’s property, NorthJersey.com reported.

The victim was shot in the arm while attempting to flee, the website reported.

Vernon and Paterson police conducted a joint investigation into the incident, which led them to a Highland Lakes Home, Vernon police said.

Police seized 97 bags of heroin, drug paraphernalia and packaging materials at the house, authorities said.

In addition to the attempted murder and possession charges, Curry was also charged with possession of heroin and possession with intent to distribute.

According to NorthJersey.com, Paterson police also charged Curry with illegal possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Two other individuals were charged as well: Ashley Conklin, 24, of Vernon, and John Walsh, 29, also of Vernon, were charged with attempted murder, police said.

Curry was taken to the Passaic County jail in default of posting bail, police said. Walsh was arrested and charged on Monday.

Representatives from the Paterson Police Department’s Ceasefire Unit did not respond to several requests for comment.
