Wayne Jewelry Store Robbed at Gunpoint, Cops Say

Man brandished handgun, made off with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

A man armed with a handgun robbed a Hamburg Turnpike jewelry store late Tuesday afternoon, said.

A man entered at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, brandished a handgun and demanded money from the cash register, Capt. Mark McGrath said. 

The man made off with an undisclosed amount of money, McGrath said. Before leaving the store, the man told the owner and his son to turn around and face the wall, McGrath said.

Det./Sgt. Al Strumolo described the man as white, approximately 30 to 40 years old and about 6-foot-2 with a slim build and wearing a bandanna at the time of the robbery.

Police are looking for a dark-colored Volkswagen that may have been involved in the robbery, McGrath said.

The owner and his son were the only two people in the store when the robbery occurred, McGrath said. They were not available for comment. The store sells jewelry and collectables, including baseball cards and old gold and silver coins.
