Wayne Jewelry Store Robbed at Gunpoint, Cops Say

Man brandished handgun, made off with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

A man armed with a handgun robbed a Hamburg Turnpike jewelry store late Tuesday afternoon, said.

A man entered at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, brandished a handgun and demanded money from the cash register, Capt. Mark McGrath said.

The man made off with an undisclosed amount of money, McGrath said. Before leaving the store, the man told the owner and his son to turn around and face the wall, McGrath said.

Det./Sgt. Al Strumolo described the man as white, approximately 30 to 40 years old and about 6-foot-2 with a slim build and wearing a bandanna at the time of the robbery.

Police are looking for a dark-colored Volkswagen that may have been involved in the robbery, McGrath said.

The owner and his son were the only two people in the store when the robbery occurred, McGrath said. They were not available for comment. The store sells jewelry and collectables, including baseball cards and old gold and silver coins.

Anyone with information should contact the Wayne Police Detective Bureau at 973-633-3530.

Another desperate poor soul. Fix the economy, get back jobs for Americans, and this will stop.
M August 07, 2012 at 11:00 PM
Not having a job is not an excuse to break the law. There are thousands of us without jobs and don't choose to be scumbags.

Robbing a store in the T-Bowl Shopping Center in the middle of the day is dumb.
Emanon August 08, 2012 at 12:14 AM
Perhaps several of the "ATM" yellow light cameras could be relocated to scan the shopping centers . Why throw the book at some old hag sailing through a yellow light who is on social security? Had the cameras been focused on the T Bowl Shopping center , perhaps the perpetrator could have been caught. Then after the arrest the police could have treated themselves to Donuts and Coffee next door at one of their favorite haunts .Dunkin Donuts LOL I wonder if the NOSE knows about this one?

How do you know he is a "poor soul" Was the suspect in all the home burglaries a "pool soul"? Or could he be just yet another criminal robbing people to support his drug habit? If caught should he be let go, because he is a "poor soul"??? People have been robbing others since the begining of time. Long before the economy was an issue. Robberies will stop once the economy comes back huh???? Wishful thinking

How about someone put up the surveilance tape so that others can get a look see at the alleged perpetrator. Maybe someone will recognize the miscreant. Personally, I am not worried as they ruled me out with the "slim build" description.

SCARY !!! People are getting desparate,NOSE Jack for many years, glad to see NOSEbody got hurt. Hope they get this guy before he hurts or kills somebody.
Someguy August 08, 2012 at 09:19 PM
Emanon, I am no fan of red light cameras. Definitely not a fan of cameras pointed all over the place to catch people as you suggest. In many of your posts you seem to hold disdain for the police. However, while you were picking your nose, several of the same officers who might stop for coffee at that Dunkin Donuts were racing to try to confront the man with the gun who robbed a small business owner. If one of them had been shot in the head like the officer at the Exxon station robbery a while back, would that have satisfied you that they do their job sufficiently?
Nose Wayne August 09, 2012 at 03:53 AM
Hey Someguy, easy on the NOSE jokes. That situation could have gotten real bad if the robber walked out with gun and jewelry in hand and a policeman was walking by. What do you think would have happened ? Shootout at the Wedgewood Plaza at 4;30m in the afternoon !!!! Don't even want to think what could have happened. They are checking other cameras in the Shopping Center, hope they catch him before someone gets hurt or killed !!!!!!

They have no jewelry in there, It's a nickel and dime store. The guy probably left the store with less then he went in with.
Nose Wayne August 09, 2012 at 04:11 AM
Unreal, sure you were in the right store ? That's not what I saw ?
Nose Wayne August 09, 2012 at 04:16 AM
Guess the jewelry stores that were raided were also "Nickel and Dime" stores also ?
unrealthistown August 09, 2012 at 04:32 AM
Yes, I was in the right store. It just does not sound right to me,
unrealthistown August 09, 2012 at 04:33 AM
The Jewelry stores were in the Willowbrook mall outlet,,,Front for the Russian Mob, Not a good idea for Fox News to go there again

The police definitely deserve our support , and I commend most of the officers for doing a great job under difficult circumstances; however, but one must admit , if you are really honest , that the Yellow Light cameras are not meant to "help the children" , but merely as an excuse to extract money from the tax paying citizens of Wayne. Yes when somebody blatantly runs a red light he should be ticketed, but when a motorist has a vehicle behind him , and he jams on his brakes as soon as the light turns yellow ........an accident will surely result. What we need are surveillance cameras provided by the mall owners , which could be tied into a police monitoring situation. This would definitely be money better spent. I "NOSE" that this could work!
