Narcotics Sweep Nabs Four Wayne Residents

Six others charged as a result of two-day operation.

Four Wayne residents, including three juveniles, were charged during a two-day Passaic County Sheriff’s Office operation to crack down on the purchase and distribution of illegal narcotics.

Narcotics detectives arrested 10 individuals. The operation, called "Taking back the streets one dealer at a time," was conducted in Paterson on Wednesday and Thursday.

Kandice Heffenm, 27, of Wayne, was charged with loitering to obtain a controlled dangerous substance, authorities said.

Detectives observed Heffenm attempting to obtain narcotics, authorities said. She was released on her own recognizance pending a future court appearance, authorities said.

Three juveniles from Wayne were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. Their names were withheld due to their ages. They were released to their parents.

Six other individuals were charged in the sweep, including a Paterson man found with 750 packets of heroin.

Wayne police have cracked down on Wayne youth using prescription and illegal substances. Two officers were reassigned to the narcotics unit to combat the problem. The police department and school district officials held a reality tour and a community forum for parents and students about the latest trends in teenage drug use.

Of the 44 drug overdose deaths in Passaic County from September 2012 to May 2013, seven occurred in Wayne.
