Community Corner

Participate in the Advocacy Fair at the WP University Galleries!

The University Galleries would like to invite local groups to participate in our Advocacy Fair on Tuesday, February 25, from 12:30 – 2:00 pm. Students and the general public will have the opportunity to meet with representatives of various university clubs and local organizations to learn about causes for which they advocate. Visitors are encouraged to come to get informed, inspired and involved! If you would like to participate as a presenting group, a table will be provided for you in the Court Gallery. We suggest you come to distribute materials about your selected cause, to set up a fundraising project, or to simply connect with members of our community.

This event is planned in conjunction with a traveling exhibition called Graphic Advocacy: International Posters for the Digital Age, on view in the South and Court Galleries from January 21 – March 14, 2014. Curator Elizabeth Resnick describes the 122 visually compelling posters on view, “As a medium for social change, posters record our struggles for peace, social justice, environmental defense, and liberation from oppression. From the confrontational and political, to the promotional, persuasive and educational, the poster in all its forms has persisted as a vehicle for the public dissemination of ideas, information and opinion.”

Please let me know by Thursday, February 20th if you are interested in participating in our Advocacy Fair. You may contact me by email at johnsene@wpunj.edu or by phone at 973-720-2654 if you have questions, or if you'd like help brainstorming for a topic. Attached you will find a flier and press release for the exhibition.

I look forward to speaking with you, and welcoming you to the University Galleries!

Sincerely,
Emily
