Pam Poff, First Female Director of State Division of Civil Rights, Dies at 62

Poff was an adjunct professor at Rutgers University.

Pamela S. “Pam” Poff, 62, of Wayne and Savannah, Ga, died Nov. 9.

Poff was the first female director of the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights. She was an advisor for several years to Justice Clarence Thomas while he was chairman of the Employment Opportunity Commission.

Poff was also an adjunct faculty member at Rutgers University’s School of Management and Labor Relations.

Poff received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Upsala College and her juris doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law.

She was a member of the American Corporate Counsel Association, a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Committee.

She is survived by her partner Martha Lawson, daughter Cori, and sister Kathleen.

A memorial service is tentatively planned for Dec. 1 at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home in Wayne.
