Police, Santa Claus Visit with Special Needs Children

Wayne Police Department serves pizza, brings Santa Claus in for a visit.

The Wayne Police Department held a special holiday party for children with special needs at the Wayne Police Athletic League Wednesday.
The department has been sponsoring the gathering for 25 years. The attendees ate pizza and met with Santa Claus. Children were given toys donated by officers, Toys R Us, and Macy's.
The children are participants in the Passaic County Special Olympics.
"This is what it's all about. There's a real sense of community here," said Frank Mackey, a retired police officer with the department who spearheaded the event 25 years ago. "The kids always look forward to it."
Officer Scott Rappaport, president of the Wayne Policeman's Benevolence Association, agreed.
"All the officers in the department really enjoy getting involved every year," said Rappaport. "There's Santa, there's presents. What's better than that?"
