Honest Football Players Receive Scholarships

Boys left money at Buddy's in August when they realized no one was at the store.

Turns out it really does pay to be honest.

Four William Paterson University football players each received a $500 scholarship from Lakeland Bank for an honest act that was caught on tape in August.

The students visited Buddy’s Small Lots between preseason practices on Sunday, Aug. 25. The store was closed but the front door was unlocked so the boys went inside and attempted to pay for their merchandise. When they realized no one was there they left money on the counter before leaving. They never looked directly into a security camera to ensure anyone watching it that they didn’t steal the merchandise.
