NORTH JERSEY AFFILIATE OF SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE® HOSTS COMMUNITY BREAST CANCER OUTREACH EVENT

Susan G. Komen On the Go™ Tour Brings Life-Saving Messages to William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ on November 21, 2011

The North Jersey Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® will host Komen On the Go at William Patterson University, a stop along a nationwide tour that teaches participants to take charge of their breast health, be empowered to share information with friends, and join the breast cancer movement. The Susan G. Komen On the Go™ mobile experience educates and engages people of all ages in the breast cancer movement where they live, work and play. The Komen On the Go signature bright pink vehicles convert into interactive learning centers that provide a fun, hands-on experience. Computer kiosks offer information on the breast cancer movement, life-saving recommendations about breast self awareness, inspirational videos and a “graffiti wall” for sharing memories, or pledging support for the cause. Local breast cancer survivors and health care professionals will be on site as well, to share their experiences and knowledge.

Also available will be information on how to volunteer in your area, details on the Susan G. Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure® (to be held on May 6, 2012 at the Essex County South Mountain Recreation Complex, West Orange, NJ) and tips on supporting loved ones facing breast cancer.

About the Susan G. Komen North Jersey Affiliate

Through their annual Race for the Cure (coming up on its fifth year) and other initiatives, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Jersey Affiliate raises funds to support local grants that provide life-saving education, screening and treatment services to uninsured and underinsured women and men in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties. Of the net funds raised, 75% goes directly to the Affiliate’s nine counties; the remaining 25% is earmarked for national level research aimed at finding a cure for this terrible disease that affects the lives of so many individuals. Since its founding in 1997, the Affiliate has awarded over $13.3 million in local community grants, and has directed approximately $5.9 million to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program for breast cancer research.
