More than 1,000 Wayne residents voted for Republican Steve Lonegan than did Cory Booker in the Special Election Wednesday.
Lonegan, a Republican, received 5,344 votes, Booker, a Democrat and winner of the election, received 4,170 votes.
Lonegan received nearly 56 percent of the votes, Booker about 43 percent. Of the nearly 37,800 registered Wayne voters, more than 9,600 went to the polls. And more than 600 mailed in their ballots.
Booker wins the seat vacated by former Sen. frank Lautenberg who passed away earlier this year.
