Weather Service: Passaic River Flooding Should End Thursday

But for now, water level is still more than a foot above flood level.

Despite showers Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service is predicting that the water level on the Passaic River at Little Falls will fall below the flood level by Thursday night.

As of 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, the water level was at 8.4 feet and falling slowly. Flood level is 7 feet.

As the latest indication that floodwaters have been falling, Willowbrook Mall re-opened for business Tuesday morning, after being closed for four days.

But for hundreds of Wayne residents whose homes were flooded, cleanup efforts are continuing.

All flood-damanged homes need to be inspected by the proper utility companies and the township. The Department of Public Works will begin collecting flood-damaaged debris immediately; residents should leave the debris near the street in front of their houses. Paints, chemicals, and other potentially-hazardous materials should be kept separate from other debris.

The American Red Cross will be distributing clean-up kits to residents with flood-damaged homes.
