The voted down an ordinance 5-3 Wednesday that would have significantly reduced the amount of land needed to keep chicken hens on private property.

The ordinance would have changed the minimum lot size to own up to four hens from two acres to 10,000 square feet, about a quarter of an acre. Currently, residents can own up to 25 hens if their property is two acres in size or larger.

A group of dedicated Circassians in town is helping to support their countrymen and women in war-torn Syria.

The Board of Education has hired a new legal counsel.

The Machado Law Group, LLC will now represent and advise the regarding all legal matters.

The firm will be paid a maximum of $325,000 for legal services for the 2012-2013 school year. The appointment will last until the end of that school year.

Republican Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen announced he is running to represent New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District again.

As part of a redistricting plan due to the results of the 2010 Census, Wayne will move to the 11th district beginning Jan. 1, 2013.

Wayne resident Ray Li and his two friends have created a beverage that promotes cardiovascular health.

Li got the idea for the pink drink after speaking to one his college professors in 2008.

Three Eagle Scouts from Troop 102 are taking on the mantel of leadership from their fathers. They are mentoring young scouts the way their fathers did with them when they were younger.

The council approved an ordinance Wednesday that prohibits drivers from making a left-hand turn on Valhalla Way from Hamburg Turnpike.

The move comes as a result of drivers using the roadway to get to Black Oak Ridge Road and Route 23. Drivers often speed on the quite street.

The mayors of Little Falls, Pequannock, Fairfield, and other towns in the Passaic River Flood Basin will examine a report on the operations of the floodgates on the Pompton River dam next week. Governor Christie ordered an independent study on the gates’ operation to be done after touring the Passaic River Flood Basin last March.

Representatives for and the township are due back in federal court on April 18 regarding owner Rob Burke’s application to construct a wind turbine at his business.

The matter has dragged on for years after Burke applied to construct a turbine with 6-foot long blades on it in 2007.
